31st Annual Saskatchewan Marathon
Date: Sunday, May 24, 2009
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan: Diefenbaker Park
Distance: 21k half marathon
Course Description: Course runs alongside the South Saskatchewan River. Aid stations every 3 kms or so.
On a trip back to Canada, my mum and I walked this half marathon - it was her first event. A great day with my Mum. (That's Mom in Canada, but Mum in Australia!)
Blackfoot Ultra
Date: Saturday, May 30, 2009
Location: Cooking Lake Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Alberta (50k east of Edmonton)
Distance: 100k
Course Description: Course consists of a 25k loop passing by several small lakes. Trails and some dirt road, apparently some small hills that don't feel so small after several kms! Aid stations every 4-10k.
Had been struggling with injuries/pain, primarily around my left knee, since April. Knew I wouldn't be able to finish the 100k, but decided to use it as a training run (practicing start preparations and such) and do as much as possible. Also really wanted to see the course and visit with some friends doing the event. Was able to run 75k, thankfully, but when it got painful on the hills, I decided it was time to stop.
