You need more than that, though. It's impossible to see where to drop off ridges, etc, as the route can be so indistinct in places.Bernadette Bensonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02395370031916207980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085073287622660650.post-89993189907175702652020-08-19T22:26:46.495-07:002020-08-19T22:26:46.495-07:00Great run Bernadette. I want to have a go at it next year in one day, it is closed until then due to the fires. Do you have a breadcrumb gps trail I can download. Can’t gind anything on GPSwalk.
Keep running
RalphAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14558528012418850988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085073287622660650.post-78774833278374437502020-02-27T04:06:53.046-08:002020-02-27T04:06:53.046-08:00I hiked the Stirling Ridge walk solo last November...I hiked the Stirling Ridge walk solo last November. I followed your route, however I did it the opposite way round (finishing with a descent from Bluff Knoll).

I drank 15L of water and it took me 2.5 days to complete.

I'm seriously impressed you managed to run this in a day. The Stirling R...Great to hear of your achievements. The Stirling Range is an amazing place.

I don't want to be a party pooper but are you aware of and take hygiene measures to reduce your risk of spreading the plant disease Phytophthora Dieback which affects up to 40% of our native flora including all proteacea family i.e banksias. Opening new tracks and going form peak to peak is the quickest way to spread it. Once it's in there is no effective cure and we are losing some of out valuable threatened and endangered species in the Stirlings because of it.

Enjoying the wilderness is a real gift in this modern day and age but please do your research before you go and we should all do our best to preserve what we have left.

Best ways to avoid spreading this deadly disease is'; avoid wet conditions (the pathogen is a water mold and is spread via infected soil), stick to established tracks and trails, take a Dieback hygiene kit with you and finally find out if an area is infected with Dieback before you go by asking the land authority in the area.

All the best with your future endeavors and if anyone is interested in finding out more there are a few great sites and freely available maps with known locations eg www.dwg.org.au

Elissa enjoy wilderness responsiblyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16650378322076214539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085073287622660650.post-14958800779437248742016-09-21T05:48:56.213-07:002016-09-21T05:48:56.213-07:00Hey Bernadette

I'm heading down on Saturday to run the route that you did (for a solo attempt, I think you've found the right route).

I've hiked the ridge twice, but that was a decade ago and in the opposite direction. Since then I've done a bundle of ultras in mountainous terrain.

But nothing like this. And way finding is not my strong point. And your time is extremely solid.

So. There's a 90% chance you keep your FKT. But on the off chance, advance warning!

And I'll keep you informed of the outcome.

Thanks for the write up too. It's an awesome tale.

Jamie Blanchard
jamieblanchard10@gmail.com
Cassy & Jamiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07718111644338209684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9085073287622660650.post-40736408007831904812015-12-03T00:20:52.626-08:002015-12-03T00:20:52.626-08:00Congrats on your Stirling Ridge Epic Circuits Bern...Congrats on your Stirling Ridge Epic Circuits Bernadette. We met you on the saddle near Ellen Peak on Sunday and you left us breathless (we'd left Bluff Knoll 3 days earlier, you'd left Bluff Knoll 9 hours earlier!). I've enjoyed reading your blog. I wonder if it would be possible to have you email me a Google Earth file of your SR Ridge Walk circuit. It may help plan our next adventure down there. Thanks Bernadette. Best of luck in the Yukon. I am yet to do the full circuit in one go, but have wanted to for about 2 decades. Have been up the North Mirlpunda Track many years ago, and done most of the RTW in sections but not all of it on one go. Have climbed Bluff Knoll about 10 times (my wife has been there too), and I vaguely remember signing some register on Ellen Peak. Agree about the water rationing, 1L per hour is normal in hot conditions, 250ml-500ml is possible with discipline for me, but beyond that very risky, so IMO 3L-6L is a wise target in 6 hours. 1.5 hours might be enough for core temperature, if manged well. Excellent to hear about the cairns up there, thanks for those, and if I ever get up there again, will look out for them... Beautiful photos!!!!!! Way to go!!!!!!!!! Glad to hear Spot wasn't too far back.trailblazer777https://www.blogger.com/profile/15260445561233341753noreply@blogger.com
